Volunteer Service

serviceWhat if high school students had opportunities to serve in the community and in the process, were able to learn about their own interests and strengths?

The Circle Volunteer Service Program is designed to assist Circle students in obtaining a variety of volunteer experiences, while defining and building upon their interests and strengths. The program’s mission is “touching hearts”.

During the past three years, Circle volunteers have touched hearts and changed lives all over Central Florida. Students have assisted in big events like the Mascot Games, held yearly at the Amway Arena; and at various “walks” for non-profit organizations at Lake Eola, UCF, Crane’s Roost, and Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Our volunteers are also busy monthly hosting parties at the Russell Home, as well as collecting items for the homeless in Central Florida. Currently, there are over twenty service and volunteer opportunities in which students may participate.

Volunteer opportunities may be on an individual basis or done as a group, according to the needs of the requesting organization. Recently, Circle formed a partnership with four new organizations: Florida Hospital in Altamonte, Central Florida Regional Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Central Florida Childrens Home. In addition, new ministries have developed, such as the Hopeful Soles Ministry, which collects sturdy shoes and backpacks for the homeless who need these items in order to find work. Student Leaders are responsible for developing the programs, recruiting others to get involved, and leading the projects through the direction of Mrs. Stella.

Internship opportunities are developing to offer students an engaging look at a possible career path. Students should remember, it is not just about the “75 hours” needed for graduation – it’s about serving in the community and “touching hearts”.

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men” – Ephesians 6:7

Karen and her husband have two children who were homeschooled through Circle Christian School for thirteen years. During that time, she assisted in creating a volunteer program for students.  Her passion is to help students realize their goals and develop leadership skills through volunteering in the community.  She loves being with students, especially for the opportunities it affords her to build relationships of encouragement. Galatians 6:10 sums up Karen’s life philosophy: “So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone.”
