Circle parents with students currently in 7th-10th grade, are strongly urged to attend one of the upcoming 2016 Five Year High School Planning Workshops. Today students have the opportunity to begin earning high school credits in 8th grade, thus the importance of preparing for five years of high school. The workshop is required prior to scheduling a private high school planning conference with Sue McIntyre, Director of Guidance. The large group meeting is designed for parents, but upper school students may attend. The individual conference is for the parent and student so as a team we can focus on designing a personalized high school experience that builds upon the student’s GOD-given strengths.
Some of the topics to be covered include: the new “Civics” requirement, Diploma Options, Building a Transcript,” Florida Virtual School, AP & Dual Enrollment Options, College Entrance Exams, the new ACT, the Redesigned PSAT & SAT, Scholarships, High School Records and Documents, and Student Volunteer Service. Grade level students are welcome, but not required or expected to attend with their parent, however, no younger siblings please. The Five Year High School Planning Workshops to be held in April and June are designed for families new to Circle. In addition to the earlier concepts we will discuss, “What is a High School Credit” and “How are High School Credits Earned?” Again these large group informational meetings allow the follow-up individual meetings to place the focus solely on your student.
