Cross Country Team Kick Off Season with Trip to Stuart

Girls take Title in 33 Team Invitational

The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams traveled down to Stuart to take part in the New Balance / Fleet Feet Invitational. In tough and muddy conditions the team came away with some outstanding performances so early in the season.

The Varsity Girls race opened the meet with over 250 athletes taking the line. The Circle girls would bring home the championship win with a low team score of 76 points with runner up Spanish River High School 92 points back with 168 points. Freshman Sinkenesh Parker would also win the individual title in the race with a time of 19:40 over the 5,000 meter (3.1 mile course). She would take the lead just past the half way point and would cruise to a 20 second win over her closest competitor. Additional medalists (Top 15) for the Centurions in the race included Brooke McEwen (6th place in 21:00), Archike Parker (10th place in 21:15), and Mulu Parker (13th place in 21:26). The team’s 5th runner, Danielle Cline would finish 49th in 23:19 to close out the team scoring followed by Emily Grandstaff who would finish in 70 place with a time of 23:52.

The varsity girls win was not the only Championship trophy the Centurions brought back this weekend as the Boys Middle School team would win the Middle School Division with a low team score of 31 points over runner up Calvary Christian with 51 points. The individual title would go to Circle’s Jack DeJesus who took the lead early and never looked back on his way to a 12:21 clocking over the 2 mile course. He was followed by fellow meet medalist (Top 10) Abu Parker (3rd place in 13:19), Aaron Pearson (4th place in 13:27), and Calvin Jagen (7th place in 13:38). The 5th team scorer was Thomas Neeld in 17th place in a time of 15:57. The win also qualified the Boys for the elite division of the State Middle School Championship to be held in late October. Additional finishers for the young Centurions included Matthew Haak (17:36), Brennen Page (18:16), Sam Parker (18:26), and Jonah Mitchell (19:51).
