Pre-Algebra 7/8 is designed to include all concepts necessary to meet Pre-Algebra objectives and prepare students for success in Algebra I Honors. The purpose of this course is to develop solid mathematical concepts and algebraic thinking.  Topics include but are not limited to: integers, solving equations with integers, order of operations, LCM, GCF,  exponents, complex fractions, solving equations with decimals, variable expressions (monomials, polynomials), first degree equations, graphs of straight lines, measurements and proportions, percent designed to prepare students for Algebra I. At minimum a TI-30X IIS scientific calculator ($10-$15) is required (cell phone scientific calculators are not acceptable). Students may choose to invest in a TI-84 graphing calculator for future use but it is not necessary for this course. (TI-86/89 and Casio graphing calculators are not recommended). Students are required to complete all class and at-home assignments and take in-class quizzes and tests. This course serves as a core academic middle school course. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required.  This course meets twice a week.
Prerequisites: Foundational skills required for success in this course will be assessed at registration to ensure correct placement. Students who score low on the placement test, but complete remediation over the summer, retake the placement test, and demonstrate the foundational skills necessary for success will remain in the class.
