Physical Science is designed to be the last science course the student takes before taking high school Biology 1. This course will discuss such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. The twice-weekly class component will allow for additional labs and experiments to be conducted in the classroom as well as adequate lecture and lesson time for note taking. This approach is for the middle school students to be instructed in how to best “study” material presented in this format and master it in preparation for high school science courses. Various study skills, such as outlining and using flashcards, will be emphasized in this course as well as continued steps in keeping a lab notebook. Periodic quizzes will be given and daily work will be assigned each week. This is an excellent course for preparing the student to take a college prep high school science course. In keeping with recent Florida legislation to empower qualified students the opportunity to accelerate taking more math and science classes in high school Circle students on the HONORS track will have the option of taking this course for high school credit. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required. The textbook answer key is not recommended for this class. This course serves as a core academic middle school course. This course meets twice a week.
Please consult with Academic Guidance to determine if the high school credit option is in the best interest of your particular student. Eighth graders taking the course for high school credit must earn at least a “B” in the course.
