Life Science 7/8 is designed as a student’s first systematic study of the sciences. It is essential to make this introduction to science positive and Biblically centered. The following topics will be addressed in this course: scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines and physics, archaeology, geology, evolution (from a Biblical, yet truly scientific, perspective), and life science. This course will present the material from a Biblical point of view while also presenting the opposing points of view and helping students understand the problems with such views. The twice-weekly class component will allow for additional labs and experiments to be conducted in the classroom as well as adequate lecture and lesson time for note taking. This approach is for the middle school students to be instructed in how to best “study” material presented in this format and master it in preparation for high school science courses. Various study skills, such as outlining and using flashcards, will be emphasized in this course including the first steps in keeping a lab notebook. Periodic quizzes will be given and daily work will be assigned each week. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required. The textbook answer key is not recommended for this class. This course serves as a core academic middle school course. This course meets twice a week.
