Culinary Arts I is a foundational course in the universal language of food. It is intended to provide students with solid fundamentals and to develop and enhance student knowledge as it relates to the hospitality industry. Through a combination of engaging direct instruction and practical applications, this program will equip students with a broad range of culinary theory and practical experience with an emphasis on hands-on training. Students will understand the flow of food through food service operation including purchasing and receiving, storage, preparation, and service. Students will also develop knife skills while preparing and exploring classical and modernist cuisine. This course will encompass nutrition, sanitation, food-borne illnesses, menu planning, station organization, techniques of cooking and – of course, tasting! Whether you are a student just looking to gain knowledge and confidence in the kitchen or one who has an interest in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry, this course is specifically designed to provide an overview of the professionalism in the culinary industry, culinary careers and certifications, and develop and enhance student knowledge as it relates to the foodservice industry through application. It will be delicious! Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required.
