Computer Programming with Python and Raspberry Pi Applications is an introductory, yet innovative course with hands-on applications. Students will learn the foundations of programming including syntax, lists, and procedural statements such as assignments, conditional statements, loops, and method calls. Additionally students will be introduced to the concepts of object-oriented programming including classes, sub-classes, properties, inheritance, and overriding as well as searching and sorting algorithms. In the second semester, using the Raspberry Pi (an affordable, small single-board computer), students will write and execute code using Python to create fun and practical applications. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required. School laptops specifically prepared for this course will be issued. A small materials fee will be required to purchase the Raspberry Pi which students will keep at the end of the course. See 2017-18 Textbooks and Resources list, published in early May, for more details.
This is a 1:1 technology class. During the first week of class or when the technology is issued to your student a user agreement and security deposit will be required.
Prerequisites: None – assumes no programming experience; basic keyboarding (typing) skills are highly recommended.
