Biology 1 Honors provides students with exciting, exploratory experiences in a rigorous college-prep environment focused on an in-depth study of biological concepts that apply to all living systems. Topics include, but are not limited to the following: scientific method, measurement, lab safety and use of apparatus, cell biology and reproduction, basic principles of genetics, classification and taxonomy, microbiology, structure and functions of plants, animals, and humans, and ecological relationships. Emphasis will be on molecular biology, biochemistry, and skill development that encourage students to think critically and to develop a well designed, experimentally complete science project. Hands-on laboratory experiences and dissection will be a major component of this course. This course will also provide a complete survey of the five kingdoms in Creation. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus (online classroom component) will be required. Required summer reading list with summer assignment will be available in May.
