AP English Literature and Composition, a challenging college-level course, features fictional reading that is both broad and deep. This course will build upon the reading done in previous English courses. In this AP course, students read works from myriad genres and periods in literature – from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century. Because they read deliberately and thoroughly, students learn to critically analyze, draw allusions, and make comparisons. In addition to studying literary beauty, students will reflect on the social and historical perspectives the readings reflect and symbolize. Upon successful completion with a “B” or higher, students will receive 1.0 credit in AP English Literature and Composition . In order to receive credit as an AP course, students must pass the annual College Board AP exam scheduled in May. While not a prerequisite, AP Language is ideally recommended prior to AP Literature. Weekly use of Circle’s eLearning Campus will be required. Required summer reading list with summer writing assignment will be available in May. Literature Focus: World Literature
Prerequisites: English 2 or 3, and approval from Guidance Department. This course is limited to students in grades 11-12 ONLY.
