Circle vs Hampden Dubose – 11/3/16 (W 4-2)
In their first pre-season warmup match, Circle came out poised and confident against newcomer Hampden Dubose. The boys showed great first touch, communicating well and completing a high percentage of passes under pressure. Keeper Aiden Herrera distinguished himself with three tough open field saves in the first half. Circle struck first with a goal by Noah Gregory at the 21 min mark off a cross from midfielder Jenner Tjernagel. Another goal followed after 30 mins by Daniel Sheldon, captializing on a perfectly placed corner kick by Hunter Wilson. First year player Joseph Street found the back of the net at 34 mins with a pass to the back right corner off a cross from Danny Pearson. Half time arrived with Circle up 2-0. Four minutes in to the second half, Aspen Hammontree added to the total with a beautiful right-footed pass in to the opponents net off a cross from Adam Simons. Hampden struck back at 58 and 62 mins with a lucky deflection and straight shot on goal. Circle added one more score in the second half to finish out the match and their first outing with a win!
Circle vs Cornerstone – 11/8/16 (W 8-0)
The boys team started strong with a convincing victory in their season debut. Aspen Hammontree opened with a goal scored at just over two minutes with a shot from outside the penalty area. Both team’s offensive lines created opportunities for the remainder of the first quarter but could not get the ball in the back of the net. Conerstone’s only
shot in the net was called back when the opposing forward was ruled offsides. Early in the second quarter, Keeper Ethan Spivey made a terrific challenge against the opposing team’s attacking forward, effectively blunting a Cornerstone couenter attack. Shortly after, Aspen Hammontree received a through pass from Noah Gregory and made his second goal at just over the 24 minute mark. Danny Pearson passed the keeper for a goal two minutes later off an assist from Aspen. Rich Street added to the total with a quick header and goal off a high crossbar rebound from Daniel Sheldon. Minutes later, Aspen earned a solo goal and hat trick for the match, outmanuevering the opposing keeper and placing the ball in the center of the net. First half ended with Circle up 5-0. Four minutes in to the second half, Daniel Sheldon threaded an arcing penalty kick in the top right corner of the goal beyond the opposing keeper’s reach. Adam Simons added a point by placing the ball in the lower left corner of Cornerstone’s net. Adam accounted for the final goal of the match at 52 min with a deflection off the upright.
Circle vs Lake Mark Prep – 11/11/16 (L 0-3)
The match started with strong showing by Circle keeper Aiden Herrera with an outstanding open field block in the first five minutes. A unfortunately well placed through pass led to a goal for the opposing side at just over 6 mins. Circle continued to pass and control the ball well, generating several opportunities on the opposing side of the field. Defenders Nathan Carillo and Daniel Sheldon made multiple saves in front of goal in the first half, cutting off dangerous connecting passes and crossed balls. Circle maintained good passing discipline and posession, denying any additional goals for the remainder of the first half. Lake Mary started the second half scoring on a header and ground shot at 43 and 53 mins respectively. Circle picked up the tempo and played a strong second half. The best scoring opportunty occured when Daniel Sheldon took a penalty kick from the mid line and placed it high and centered on the opposing goal. This was fielded by the opposing keeper. Match ended with no additional score.
