FAQs
Some of our most frequently asked questions are grouped below.
Open Electives, Minor Tracks, Major Tracks... How do I choose?
Choose from one of our open arts electives. No CSA application, interview, or audition required.
I am not sure if I have any creative talents, but want to explore. What should I do?
Read through the course offerings and choose one or two open electives that interest you.
I know I am creative and would enjoy one of the CSA fields offered, should I select the minor or the major track?
That depends on your interest level and whether or not you know if this is a field you would like to pursue in college. For those who enjoy the art as a “hobby” then choose the minor track. The courses will be listed on your high school transcripts allowing potential colleges an insight into your personality. For those who know without a doubt, one of the art tracks offered by CSA is an area you want to major or even minor in college, our suggestion would be to choose the major track. If you are an incoming freshman and successfully complete the four year major track, you will be eligible to receive an ARTS HONOR DIPLOMA distinguishing you and your time in high school as dedicated to a specific arts discipline. Having successfully completed four years of intensive study in your discipline and receiving an ARTS HONOR DIPLOMA will give you a stronger advantage as you apply and audition for colleges and compete for placement with other seniors graduating from public and private performing arts high schools.
Enrollment, Academic Classes, and Schedules
Yes. Circle School of the Arts only accepts applicants currently enrolled in CCS.
I would like to enroll in CSA, what do I do?
You must first attend one of our Info Meetings. Second, please complete and submit our application form. For graphic or visual art tracks, please submit your portfolio as described under Audition Info on our website. After receipt of your completed application, you will be contacted to schedule your audition and interview. Auditions are scheduled for February 19, March 19, and June 11. Acceptance letters will be emailed within 5 to 7 days after your audition.
I want to enroll in academic CCS high school classes. How do I do that?
On your CSA application, under Part 5, you have the option to enroll in Circle’s English, math, science or history classes. Check the boxes that apply and your CSA advisor will handle your enrollment for you. Registration fees must be paid before CCS will send class confirmations.
How do I know what days and times I have classes?
You can download the Course and Timetable pdf file for your track from our website. Timetables for each grade level for both minor and major tracks are listed. Timetables also list CCS core academic classes by grade level. If you selected to enroll in CCS academic classes on your application, the academic classes listed on the timetable have priority seating for CSA students. Your placement will be “held” pending acceptance in CSA.
What if I am not accepted in CSA, can I still get into the academic classes that were “held” pending acceptance?
Yes, if you wish to enroll for the same exact course day, location, and period. If another course day, location, or period is more convenient for your family and space is still available, you are free to request a change.
Tracks & Minors & Majors
Yes, especially if you know now this is a field you plan to pursue in college. The additional courses listed on your high school transcript will make you a stronger candidate to the college of your choice.
If I choose a minor track can I switch to the major track in future years?
Yes and depending on the high school year you decide to switch, you might still be eligible to receive an ARTS HONOR DIPLOMA if you fulfill the required credits. Consult your advisor.
Can I change my minor or major track at any time?
Changes in tracks can be made at the beginning of each school year. You should consult your advisor to see how the change in a major track could affect your eligibility in receiving an ARTS HONOR DIPLOMA.
I have a strong interest in two of the tracks listed. Can I have a double minor?
Yes. We recognize some artists have been blessed with multiple creative gifts. Consult your advisor to determine if a double minor is a viable option for you.
I had no idea I was gifted in an area and after taking one open elective course for 2011-2012, I want to enroll in CSA next year. How does that work?
In November of each year, applications will be accepted for the following school year. You must complete a CSA application and participate in the audition/interview process. If accepted, you will be placed in year one courses for your track which you have not already received credit for. Your advisor will be able to assist you in selecting future courses.
What is the Interdisciplinary Arts Minor Track?
This minor track can be designed for the student who wishes to work in multiple artistic disciplines. Your courses and timetables will be discussed during your audition/interview process.
Circle Theatre Company and The Theatre Track
Yes; but participation in Company is not based solely on enrolling in the required core class and Company. For 2011-2012, any student wishing to be considered for Circle Theatre Company must choose to enroll in CSA and chose theatre as a minor or major track. Students must commit to artistic growth by participating in juries each semester and must go through an audition/interview process. There will be a limited number of spaces available and students are encouraged to audition in February.
What if I am not accepted into CSA’s theatre track, do I still have a performance outlet?
Yes! All students are eligible to continue participating in a performance class by enrolling in the required core class and Circle Studio Players. For 2011-2012, Circle Studio Players will no longer be a one semester class with students joining Company for second semester. Instead, Circle Studio Players will work together on their own production to be performed mid to late second semester in the Orlando Repertory Black Box Theatre. Circle Studio Players is open to all CCS students in 7th to 12th grade who enroll in the designated core class and Studio Players.
Fees, Auditions, and Juries
All minor tracks have the same registration $100 and participation fees $700, except the theatre track participation fee is slightly higher $1,050. The vocal track has an additional $150 performance fee and the theatre track’s performance fee is $300. Additional CSA classes are open to CSA students, if approved by your advisor. Consult the CSA Program Fee Summary.
What’s the difference in cost for a major track?
Bottom line, a total of $400 ($50 more in registration fees and $350 more for the third course). The theatre major track is slightly higher due to the required production classes.
What does PLUS mean after the tracks on the CSA Program Fee Summary?
If you would like to take your required English and math courses at Circle, CSA students have priority seating and tuition fees are grouped together with your minor/major track participation and registration fees.
Where do I go to find out what is required for my audition?
Audition requirements can be download from our website.
What is a jury and why are CSA students required to participate in a jury each semester?
A jury is a final performance by a CSA student in front of a panel of jurors, usually consisting of faculty. At the end of the semester each student must perform or submit a project to illustrate artistic growth. Participating in juries at the high school level prepares you for your participation at the college or conservatory level, as juries are required for most students pursuing the arts.
