Varsity Basketball
The season has come to an end for the varsity Centurion basketball team. Without Drew Ramirez for the District Championships, the team knew it had to come together and fight hard in order to have a chance at advancing in the State tournament. Our Quarterfinal matchup was against Mount Dora Bible. The Centurions showed their character and never gave up. In a game much closer than the score indicates, MDB won by a final of 51 – 41. The game was a one possession game with less than 2 minutes to go. Circle just could not get a shot to fall and had to foul the Bulldogs to lengthen the game. MDB hit their free throws and that was the game. Matt Crowe led Circle in almost every way possible. He directed the offense, he led the defensive stand, and he led the team in scoring with 13 points. He was supported by Anthony Gassman, who had 10 points, and Drew Dickens with 7 points. Everyone played hard. It was an emotional end to a very good season.
Very few expected that this year’s varsity would reach the heights and enjoy the success they did. The players are to be congratulated. The Centurions won the Championship of the Kalyn High Memorial Holiday Tournament @ Masters Academy. With a final record of 16 – 10 and a number of quality wins over some very good teams, it was a very good year. Thanks to seniors Drew Ramirez, Matthew Crowe, Jonathan Albers, Anthony Gassman, Tim Icardi, Nathan Larsen, Drew Dickens, and Shane Scovil and to our underclassmen Zac London and Jordan Brown.
