Circle entered the last week of the regular season without Drew Ramirez, who was injured in the St. John’s Lutheran game.  On Tuesday, the varsity Centurions traveled to Lake Mary Prep to play the quick, athletic Griffins.  Their gym is one of the toughest to play in.  Circle fought hard, handled LMP’s pressure defense, and nearly pulled off the upset.  The final score was LMP 59  CCS 53.  Shane Scovil was active and aggressively rebounding and looking for his shots.  He played his best game of the season.  The scoring was distributed between Drew Dickens with 15 points, Matt Crowe with 14, and Anthony Gassman adding 11.  Crowe played a great floor game in directing the Circle attack and breaking LMP’s full court pressure.

On Thursday night, Circle took their longest road trip of the season and traveled to The Villages High School.  The Buffalo had talent and finished 1st in their District during the season.  The varsity Centurions got after their opponent from the opening tip and never let up.  Circle’s defense stymied The Villages’ attack and the Centurions cruised to a 59 – 40 victory.  It was a true team victory as everyone played and contributed.  Jon Albers lit it up from the arc and was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points.  Both Matt Crowe and Drew Dickens contributed 15 points.

To finish out their regular season, Circle hosted Elevation Academy on Friday night.  Although outsized, the varsity Centurions built a 14 point halftime lead.  In the second half, however, Elevation made a run and late in the game were within 3 points of the lead.  Circle finished the game strong and won by a final of 74 – 69.  Matt Crowe, in handling pressure and directing the attack, was again instrumental in securing the win.  He also added 15 points.  Anthony Gassman led all scorers with 20 points.  Drew Dickens scored 17 and Jon Albers had 13.  It was a great night for our seniors and they closed out their regular season with a hard fought victory.

Circle ends its regular season with an overall record of 16 – 9 and now enters the State Tournament.  Our first District game is on Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:00pm versus Mount Dora Bible.  Come out and support the Centurions!
