The team traveled to St. Augustine this week to face St. Joseph’s Academy in a Regional Quarterfinal match. St. Joseph’s put the Circle defense under pressure from the opening whistle. Circle did get a few counter attack opportunities but could not finish them. St Joseph’s attack resulted in 8 corner kicks in the first half. Their 8th corner kick with 45 seconds left in the half resulted in the first goal of the game.

St Joseph’s started the second half strong and within the first 4 minutes made it 2-0. Now down 2-0 the Centurions had to start pressing forward to get back in to the match. Finding a way through St. Joseph’s defense was not easy and while the attack yielded a few shots it could not get anything past the keeper. St Joseph’s got their final goal after Circle had gone down to only three defenders with everyone else committed to the attack.

The final in Circle boys’ varsity soccer first ever Regional match was 3-0 St. Joseph’s. The boys ended their record breaking season with a 14-7-1 record, the best ever in Circle soccer history. Congratulations to this team of fine young men for a job well done, who not only displayed great soccer skills but great character throughout the season.
