You Can’t Do This Alone

Social media, quick conversations, and our busy lives are pulling us all away from one another.  What is real connection?  What does it mean to share your life with another?  Can it really be done from behind a screen at home alone or do we need to be face to face?

Over the last several weeks I have been intrigued to watch the energy that is coming when there is a connection to another person who is sharing a similar story or journey.  The decision to homeschool your children is a decision that carries HUGE responsibility. For many, there was a noted time when you sensed a  clear calling from the LORD, “This is the way, walk in it.”  But now that you are in the midst of the journey, the enemy is out to cause you to doubt and question that calling.

This is the time of year when many will face their greatest challenges because of a weary body, a doubting mind, or a desire to live independently of everyone else’s needs.  I beg you not to disengage.  Focus on your intentions, delights, and the image of what GOD has called you to do.

Here is what I know is true.  You need others.  Your soul needs to be inspired and refreshed, not occasionally, but consistently because inspiration and encouragement leaks.  You need to know you are not alone.  The challenge of raising children is not for the fainthearted.  You are not just teaching the academic subjects, but you are training your children to be mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, artists, scientists, faithful stewards of the gospel, and leaders in a time that you will never know.

Does that get you excited?  I hope so.  You are doing a GREAT work and I want to encourage you to come closer to others.  You will find that your story, when shared with another, could be the very thing that encourages and inspires that person to go another day.  You will find a sense of fulfillment knowing that what you have experienced did not go to waste.

C. S. Lewis observed that God is not so much offended that we want too much as by the fact that we are satisfied with so little.  Do not settle with less, but ask GOD for more.  Step closer to a community of like-minded families and watch how your soul will be encouraged.

I am excited to host the morning coffees this week.  I hope you will join me.  There is something about meeting with others that will help you go another day

  1. Good Morning

Good article today LInda. Reminded me of the many January days

years ago that you were discouraged about homeschooling, but now how

much you are encouraging your parents to effective parents .

I praise the Lord for your faithfulness to the ministry He has called you and Jim to.

    Have a blessed day.

    Thanks MOM….
I love what I get to do today in encouraging others to stay the road that GOD has called them do. Jim and I are experiencing the rich fruit of our labor now with all of our children and their children. Blessed indeed this morning for your continued prayers, support and encouragement. I love you!

  3. Kathy Scoville says:

Thank you, Linda, for all of your encouragement and for going the extra mile on behalf of so many!
And I so agree that face-to-face time with one another is necessary to continue on the journey, along with much praying with and for each other. Appreciating the opportunities to connect!

  4. Thank you Linda (and staff) for today’s coffee time at Metro. I am enjoying the opportunities to connect and hoping that other moms will make time this week to enjoy the sweet fellowship that we did this morning. (Just show up!)

I will have lots to talk about “on the playground” next week, as some of the women I met today are on the same journey as I am right now or have expertise that may help me along the parts I cannot do alone. I look forward to sharing with them again soon.

THANK YOU, Linda, for reaffirming that it’s ok for us to take the time to keep our attitudes and thoughts about homeschooling fresh! I have not been one to just “hide out at home”, I do LOVE meeting new people/moms/friends, but there are times when I might feel somewhat guilty because I’m spending some time away from home (i.e. school), but I know that I really do need the connection. Looking forward to your discussion in the morning!

  6. Linda Werner says:
